All six challenges

Build It

Make the thing work

Quick answer

Build It is one of six online challenges in the NASCA STEM and AI Challenge 2026. It is open to grades 3 to 12, runs from 1 November 2026 to 30 November 2026, and asks for a working prototype, a three minute demo video and your build log. Entry is $25 for an individual, $50 for a team of three and $100 for a school pack of ten. Judging uses six published parameters and every valid entry earns a verifiable certificate.

The brief

What we are asking for

Robotics, electronics, a sensor rig, a machine that solves one small problem. We mark the build log as seriously as the machine, because the thinking is the point.

What you submit

A working prototype, a three minute demo video and your build log

How it is judged

Concept

Do you understand the idea underneath the build, not only the steps you followed.

Application

Does the work solve a real problem for a real person you can name.

Structure

Is the design sound, documented and repeatable by someone else.

Development

How far did the work travel from first sketch to final submission.

Programming and analytical skills

The logic, the data handling and the reasoning behind the choices.

Presentation

Can you explain it clearly and answer a hard question about it.
